Energy and Mining Summit Proposal to Arab League States
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that they aim to take cooperation with the Arab League states further in every field and said, “Organizing a summit in the field of energy and mining with the Arab League states is important for the development of more permanent, more concrete, multilateral cooperation.”
Türkiye’s Energy Strategy
Minister Bayraktar hosted the ambassadors of 21 Arab countries at the ministry and shared information on Türkiye's energy strategies.
70 Billion Dollar Bill
Bayraktar stated that Türkiye has an energy bill of approximately 70 billion dollars every year and said, “Türkiye imports almost 90 percent of its oil and almost all of its natural gas until very recently. Therefore, our priority is to end our dependence on foreign energy while ensuring security of supply.”
Renewable Potential
Pointing out that Türkiye has a great potential in renewable energy resources, Bayraktar said: “We want to include renewable resources in our energy mix to the maximum extent, this is one of our goals.”
Transformation from Fossil Fuels
Emphasizing that Türkiye has been working on generating electricity from nuclear energy for the past 70 years, Bayraktar said: “When Akkuyu is completed, it will meet 10 percent of Türkiye's electrical energy. Nuclear will help us realize our climate-related goals and accelerate our transformation from fossil fuels.”
10 Fold Target
Noting that Türkiye is exploring for natural gas in its own seas and with its own fleet, Bayraktar said that they aim to increase the current production in Sakarya Gas Field by 10 times with a daily production target of 60 million cubic meters in 2028.
200 thousand barrels
Drawing attention to the oil production activities in the Gabar Mountain region of Şırnak, Bayraktar said, “We are currently continuing our production in this field, which we estimate to have a reserve of approximately one billion barrels. As of next year, we are working to increase daily production in Gabar to 100 thousand barrels and in total to approximately 200 thousand barrels.”
Critical Mines
Stating that Türkiye has very important reserves in the field of critical minerals, Bayraktar said: “We want to add these reserves to the economy in the fastest way possible, develop our industry in these technologies and produce not only raw materials but also the final product there. In this sense, I think we have an important area of cooperation with the Arab League states regarding critical minerals.”
Emphasis on Cooperation
Emphasizing international cooperation in the field of energy, Bayraktar said, “It is important for our cooperation with the Arab League states to go further in every field, and the organization of a summit in the field of energy and mining with the Arab League states is important for the development of more permanent, more concrete, multilateral cooperation. As a country, we are endeavoring to develop and diversify these, especially through oil pipelines, natural gas pipelines, and our cooperation with neighboring countries and countries in the region.”
Development Road Project
Pointing to the importance of turning the Iraq Development Road Project into an energy road project at the same time, Bayraktar said: “I believe that we can be in a cooperation in which we can expand the regional scope much more regionally, by transferring the resources of the region to Türkiye and from Türkiye to Europe through the oil and natural gas pipelines and electricity transmission lines we can create there.”
We Will Join Hands for Gaza
At the end of his speech, Bayraktar said that Israel has martyred 40 thousand people in Gaza for nearly a year without even mentioning children and the elderly and added: “The world needs to say ‘Stop’ to this. This will must be shown now. Inshallah, we will go to Gaza again and we will help rebuild Gaza together.”
