Cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in Renewable Energy

Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan will develop projects in the fields of energy efficiency and energy saving, especially renewable energy.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the energy ministries of the two countries during President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visits to Kyrgyzstan. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, who made a post on social media on the subject, said: ‘With this agreement, we aim to develop joint projects in the fields of energy, energy efficiency and energy saving, and to encourage private sector initiatives in different fields of energy, especially solar, wind and hydroelectricity.’

President Erdoğan travelled to Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, to attend the 11th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTC). Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Bayraktar also took part in President Erdoğan's delegation. Prior to the CIS summit, the 6th Meeting of the High Level Strategic Council of Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan was held. After the meeting, agreements were signed in the presence of President Erdoğan and President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov.

 

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Bayraktar and Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibrayev signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two ministries in the fields of energy, energy efficiency and energy saving.

 

Incentives for the Private Sector

With this agreement, a framework for co-operation in related fields was established, while facilitating the exchange of technical information and experts. According to the agreement; the two countries will develop projects in the fields of energy efficiency and energy saving, especially renewable energy. Private sector initiatives in the field of energy, including solar, wind and hydropower, will be encouraged. The memorandum of understanding is also a roadmap for establishing cooperation on energy efficiency and the commissioning and implementation of energy efficient technologies.

 

Renewable Energy Projects

In the meantime, Minister Bayraktar also had a head-to-head meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart Ibrayev. During the meeting, projects that can be realised in the field of energy, especially renewable energy, were evaluated.
