We Plan to Increase the Energy We Supply to Syria

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, who sent two different delegations to Damascus to assess the situation for the reconstruction of Syria, gave a Syrian message in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Emphasizing the importance of relations with neighbors, Minister Bayraktar said, “We aim to increase our interconnections with our neighbors and triple them. He Explained the Transformation Strategy

Minister Bayraktar attended the 15th General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Speaking at the panel titled “Energy Transition Pathways in Developing Countries” organized as part of the General Assembly, Minister Bayraktar explained Türkiye's energy transition strategy.

Long Term Strategy

Bayraktar stated that Türkiye has three main issues in the field of energy: meeting the increasing demand for energy, reducing dependence on foreign energy and becoming a carbon-neutral economy, and that they have developed a long-term strategy to address these issues.

Household Energy from Renewables

Pointing out that renewable energy plays an important role in this strategy, Bayraktar said, “Because renewable energy can also solve this challenge.” Bayraktar noted that Türkiye's renewable energy installed capacity has increased to 32 gigawatts and that all of the electricity used in households is provided by solar and wind.

Green Grid

Explaining that their goal is to increase the installed capacity in renewable energy to 120 gigawatts, i.e. 4 times, Bayraktar said, “To achieve this, we need an investment of approximately 80 billion dollars. We also need a more resilient and powerful energy grid. We call this 'green grid' and we will build a system in the style of transmission 2.0. On the grid side, we will need an investment of approximately 28 billion dollars in the next 10 years.”

Cooperation

Referring to the importance of regional cooperation, Bayraktar said, “We aim to increase our interconnections with our neighbors and triple them. We are currently supplying energy to Iraq. We are planning to increase the energy we provide to Syria in the near future and we hope that stability will be achieved in the region. Therefore, regional connections and cooperation are more important than ever.”
