Turkmen Gas Coming to Türkiye
Negotiations on natural gas trade between Türkiye and Turkmenistan, which started in 1998, reached a conclusion after 27 years. BOTAŞ and Turkmengaz reached an agreement on the supply of Turkmen gas to Türkiye. With the agreement, deliveries are planned to start as of March 1, 2025.

Foundations Laid in Antalya
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a meeting with Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov, President of the People's Assembly of Turkmenistan, who came to Türkiye to attend the Antalya Diplomacy Forum on March 1, 2024. During the meeting, agreements were signed between the two countries to increase cooperation in natural gas and oil, and a declaration of intent was made on the transportation of Turkmenistan's rich natural gas resources to Türkiye and through Türkiye to the West.
Minister Bayraktar's Visit
In July, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar visited Turkmenistan and underlined that there was a serious will at the level of heads of state on this issue and said, “God willing, we will turn this into reality and we will put these negotiations and agreements, which have been going on since 1998, into practice in a sense.”
Consensus Achieved
Following these developments, intensive efforts were made to establish the necessary technical and legal infrastructure for the start of gas flow from Turkmenistan to Türkiye. As a result, an important agreement was reached between BOTAŞ and Turkmengaz that will usher in a new era in energy cooperation.
Starts March 1st
Under the agreement, the flow of natural gas is scheduled to start on March 1, 2025.
A Historic Step
Minister Bayraktar announced the agreement on his social media account. In his post, Bayraktar said, “We took a historic step in Türkiye-Turkmenistan energy cooperation. We signed an agreement between BOTAŞ and Turkmengaz that will enable Turkmen gas to come to our country.”
Strategic Cooperation
Bayraktar continued as follows: Today, we have reached the concrete output of the memorandum of understanding for the development of our cooperation in the field of natural gas, which we signed in Antalya in March last year in the presence of our President Mr. @RTErdoğan and Turkmenistan People's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov. Within the scope of the agreement, gas flow is planned to start on March 1, 2025. With this agreement, which we have been working on for many years, we will strengthen the natural gas supply security of our country and our region, while furthering the strategic cooperation between the two countries.
