Second Floating Production Platform in the Black Sea

With the platform, production at the Sakarya Gas Field will increase to 40 million cubic meters per day. It will involve strength to our production in the Black Sea. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said, “The new production platform, which we plan to commission by mid-2028, will operate in the Black Sea and enhance our production capacity there. With our new platform, which will take us to Phase 3, production at the Sakarya Gas Field will reach 40 million cubic meters per day.”

An important step has been taken to advance the development of the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea to Phase 3. An agreement has been reached with a Chinese company for the procurement of a new floating production platform (FPU) in the form of a ship to support production in the Black Sea. Under the contract, which covers engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning activities, production of the platform has begun in China.

273 meters in length, 54 meters in width

Similar to the Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform, the new ship-shaped platform will be 273 meters long, 54 meters wide, and 26 meters deep. The platform will be anchored to the seabed in four groups with a total of 20 rope systems in an area approximately 180 kilometers offshore with a water depth of approximately 2,200 meters, where it will remain stationary. The platform will provide accommodation for 150 personnel.

Gas Will Be Directly Transferred to the National Transmission Network

The platform will process raw natural gas production from the wells on-site, perform well control, water separation, drying, compression, measurement, and similar operations. After these processes, the natural gas will be transported to shore via an underwater pipeline. The natural gas sent from the platform will be directly transferred to the national transmission network.

Daily Production Capacity of 25 Million Cubic Meters

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said in a statement that the new floating production platform will increase daily natural gas production in the Black Sea to 40 million cubic meters. Recalling that 9.5 million cubic meters of gas are currently produced daily from the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea and that production will reach 20 million cubic meters per day with the Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform, which will begin operations in mid-2026, Minister Bayraktar said, "A sister platform will join our Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform. We expect our new platform, currently under construction in China, to set sail for Türkiye by the end of 2027. The new production platform, which we plan to commission by mid-2028, will operate in the Black Sea and enhance our production capacity there. With our new platform, which will take us to phase 3, our production at the Sakarya Gas Field will increase fourfold compared to today, reaching 40 million cubic meters per day.
