8.7 Billion Cubic Meters of Natural Gas Agreement with 3 Energy Majors

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources continues to take steps to diversify the supply portfolio in order to ensure supply security in energy. Three important signatures were signed in Italy in accordance with the goal of becoming a central country in natural gas. Türkiye's national company BOTAŞ signed separate agreements with BP, ENI and Shell, which are among the giants of the global market. BOTAŞ will supply a total of 8.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas thanks to agreements, each of which is three years old.

Hungarian and Libyan Ministers

Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, held meetings with numerous ministers and senior executives of global companies at Gastech 2025, which was held in Milan, Italy this year. Bayraktar, who met with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, also met with Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek.

 

LNG Agreement with BP

At Gastech, which is considered the world's largest energy meeting, an LNG agreement covering the years 2026-2028 was signed between BOTAŞ and BP. BP Global LNG Vice President Jerome Milongo also attended the signing ceremony accompanied by Minister Bayraktar. According to the agreement; BOTAŞ will supply a total of 4.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas from BP. In his post on his social media account regarding the agreement, Minister Bayraktar said, "This cooperation is important in terms of ensuring our supply security, increasing resource diversity and strengthening commercial flexibility, especially in the winter months."

 

Contract with ENI

Within the scope of Gastech, a natural gas supply agreement covering the years 2026-2028 has been signed between the Italian ENI, one of the world's largest oil and natural gas companies, and BOTAŞ. Minister Bayraktar and ENI CEO Claudio Descalzi also attended the ceremony. With this agreement, ENI will send a total of 1 and a half billion cubic meters of LNG cargo to BOTAŞ within 3 years. Regarding this agreement, Minister Bayraktar said, "We will add flexibility to our seasonal supply-demand balance with the purchase of 1.5 billion cubic meters of LNG in total."

 

An agreement with Shell

After this agreement, Minister Bayraktar met with LNG President Tom Summers and Shell Integrated Gas President Cederic Cremers, one of the executives of Shell, which is also a world giant. With the signatures made after the negotiations, it was decided that BOTAŞ would trade LNG with Shell between 2026-2028. Shell will supply BOTAŞ with a total of 2.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas within 3 years. In his post regarding the meeting, Minister Bayraktar said, "In our meeting, we made comprehensive evaluations on BOTAŞ's natural gas supply strategy, potential cooperations for exploration and production activities in our country, especially the Black Sea, and joint energy initiatives in third countries. After our meeting, we signed an agreement between BOTAŞ and Shell, which will be valid for 3 years and includes a total of 2.4 billion cubic meters of LNG purchase." evaluated.

 

Strategic Cooperation with Oman

Minister Bayraktar, who visited Oman in July, signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Energy'. Within the framework of this agreement, OMAN LNG went to the Strategic Cooperation Agreement with BOTAŞ in Milan. Minister Bayraktar and OMAN LNG CEO Hamed Al Naamany attended the signing ceremony. Regarding the agreement, Minister Bayraktar said, "With the Strategic Cooperation Agreement, it is aimed to increase the LNG production capacity in Oman, to develop cooperation with FSRU and LNG transport ships, and to evaluate additional LNG purchase options. This step was a concrete reflection of the Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Energy, which we signed in Oman in July," he commented.

 

China's Biggest

After this meeting, Bayraktar attended the memorandum of understanding signed between Petrochina, China's largest oil and natural gas company, and BOTAŞ. PCI Board Chairman Wu Junli also took part in the ceremony. This comprehensive agreement is expected to strengthen BOTAŞ's presence on the global LNG scene.

 

Meetings with Large Companies

Minister Bayraktar had a bilateral meeting with Baker Hughes CEO Lorenzo Simonelli as part of his contacts with Italy. After the meeting, an agreement was signed between BOTAŞ and Baker Hughes. In the meeting with Sarah Bairstow, Head of the Woodside Louisiana LNG Project, possible cooperation opportunities related to LNG trade were discussed.
