Important Move in Natural Gas Supply

Türkiye has made an important move to diversify its natural gas supply in the medium term. At Gastech 2025 held in Italy; LNG agreements were made with 8 different global companies for the years 2026-2028. Thanks to the agreements covering 3 years, approximately 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas supply will be provided. LNG shipments will start as of this winter.

2nd Day at Gastech

Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, continued his contacts at Gastech 2025, which was held in Milan this year and is considered one of the world's largest energy summits.

 

Intensive Program

On the one hand, Minister Bayraktar, who met with the senior executives and decision makers of the companies participating in the event, on the other hand, accompanied the agreements signed by Türkiye’s national company BOTAŞ.

 

First Contact with the US Secretary

Bayraktar met for the first time with US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, who took office this year. Regarding the meeting, Minister Bayraktar said on his social media account, "We have discussed new opportunities in these areas with the current cooperation between Türkiye and the USA on oil and natural gas exploration and production, LNG trading, nuclear energy and critical mines. We believe that Türkiye-US energy relations will be further strengthened on the basis of a common vision and mutual trust in line with the goals set by our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US President Donald Trump.

 

Meeting with Company Managers

Bayraktar held meetings with the Italian electricity and natural gas distribution company Edison, ConocoPhillips, one of the important players operating in the field of hydrocarbon exploration and production of the USA, and the executives of the US oil and natural gas company Chevron.

 

183 Kilometers Of Line Under The Sea

During the contacts, an agreement was signed between Italian Saipem and TP-OTC, a company that carries out maritime operations of Turkish Petroleum, to build an agreement of a 183-kilometer deep sea main production pipeline for the transportation of natural gas to be produced within the scope of Phase-3 in Sakarya Gas Field. Minister Bayraktar, who met with Saipem CEO Alessandro Puliti, discussed the technical plans for the development of the Sakarya Gas Field Phase 3 phase.

 

Multi-Source, Flexible and Safe

On the margin of Gastech 2025, 5 separate agreements were signed between BOTAŞ and suppliers from different countries. Accordingly; British energy company Hartree will deliver a total of 600 million cubic meters of LNG in 2 years. Minister Bayraktar wished that this agreement would make significant contributions to Türkiye's multi-source, flexible and safe energy structure.

 

Market Focused New Model

With another agreement, Cheniere, one of the largest LNG manufacturers in the USA, will send a total of 1.2 billion cubic meters of LNG cargo to BOTAŞ within a year. Regarding the agreement with Cheniere, Minister Bayraktar shared on social media, "This cooperation will contribute to the development of new business models that increase portfolio diversity within the framework of our medium-term LNG strategy and market-oriented, flexible and prioritize trade."

 

Sustainable Strong Infrastructure

In Gastech 2025, a 3-year LNG agreement was signed between BOTAŞ and SEFE, one of the leading natural gas companies in Germany. Regarding BOTAŞ's supply of 1.8 billion cubic meters of gas from SEFE, Minister Bayraktar said, "This agreement will allow our goal of creating a sustainable and strong infrastructure in natural gas supply as well as the evaluation of commercial opportunities together."

 

Regional Commercial Opportunities

At the event, Japan's largest energy production company JERA and BOTAŞ signed a one-year contract. According to the contract; JERA will provide a total of 600 million cubic meters of natural gas supply. In his evaluation for the agreement, Minister Bayraktar said, "I wish this agreement, which will also allow the mutual evaluation of regional commercial opportunities, to be beneficial for our country and companies."

 

It Will Strengthen Predictability

The series of deals in Milono ended with Norwegian energy company Equinor. It was decided that Equinor company would supply a total of one and a half billion cubic meters of natural gas to BOTAŞ within 3 years. Minister Bayraktar shared the message from social media, "We believe that this agreement, which will strengthen the medium-term predictability of Türkiye's LNG portfolio, will make significant contributions to our resource diversity and supply security policies."

 

Approximately 15 Billion Cubic Meters in 3 Years

Türkiye's national company BOTAŞ agreed with BP, ENI and Shell, which are among the giants of the energy market, for a total of 8.7 billion cubic meters of LNG. When 5 agreements signed today were added, Türkiye has committed a total of approximately 15 billion cubic meters of gas in 2026-2028. LNG shipments, which are the subject of agreements, will start in the winter months.
