Huge Agreement on Natural Gas
A giant agreement was signed to ensure supply security in natural gas and increase supply diversity. Türkiye's national company BOTAŞ shook hands with Mercuria on the supply of a total of 70 billion cubic meters of LNG in 20 years, approximately 4 billion cubic meters every year.
Accompanying the signing ceremony, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said, "We have signed an agreement that will enable the supply of LNG from the USA for 20 years. This agreement will greatly contribute to the 100 billion dollar trade volume target with the USA.” said.
Date Signature
While President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan continued his contacts in New York, where he was held on the occasion of the United Nations General Assembly, historical signatures were made in the field of energy. Mercuria, one of the world's largest independent integrated energy and commodity groups, has signed an LNG trading agreement with BOTAŞ, the state organization responsible for Türkiye's oil and gas infrastructure and gas trade.
Ceremony at Türkevi
The signing ceremony of the agreement was held at Türkevi in New York. BOTAŞ General Manager Abdulvahit Fidan and Mercuria President Daniel Jaeggi signed the agreement that will provide long-term natural gas supply to Türkiye.
20-Year Agreement
The agreement will cover the years 2026-2045. BOTAŞ will receive approximately 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas equivalent LNG every year, mainly in winter. Delivery points; There will be US loading ports and gasification terminals in Türkiye, Europe and North Africa. Deliveries will start in 2026 and continue until the end of 2045.

In his statement regarding the agreement, Minister Bayraktar said: Today, we have signed an agreement that will allow the supply of approximately 70 billion cubic meters of natural gas equivalent to the US-sourced LNG over the next 20 years. We believe that the partnership to be established with Mercuria within the scope of this agreement will help BOTAŞ to take an important position on the global LNG stage. This agreement will also make a great contribution to achieving the 100 billion dollar trade volume target with the United States.
Preliminary Agreement with Woodside
A long-term LNG preliminary agreement was also signed between BOTAŞ and Woodside at Türkevi. With the agreement, the parties reached a preliminary agreement on the supply of approximately 5.8 billion cubic meters of LNG to BOTAŞ for 9 years starting from 2030, mostly from the Louisiana LNG Project.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Bayraktar said: We are witnessing the signing of an agreement between BOTAŞ and Woodside, which establishes an intercontinental connection. We believe that this will be the beginning of a successful partnership between BOTAŞ and Woodside. The companies have already expressed their intention to expand their relationship and build strategic cooperation in a wider region beyond an envisaged LNG sales deal. We strongly support this vision.
