Minister Bayraktar announced Türkiye's 2050 Target at ISO
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said that they aim to meet 10-15 percent of electricity production from nuclear in 2050 with a total of 12 conventional reactors and an additional 5 thousand megawatt small modular reactors (SMR).

Minister Bayraktar attended the November ordinary meeting of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) Assembly. Minister Bayraktar, who made a speech here, explained Türkiye's energy vision.
At Least 10-15 Percent of Production
Referring to Türkiye's nuclear energy goals, Minister Bayraktar said, "In 2050, we aim for the following Turkey: 12 large conventional reactors; 4 of which are in Akkuyu, in Sinop and a total of 12 reactors with Trakya. In addition to these, with small modular reactors of 5 thousand megawatts, Türkiye has to be a country that can fully benefit from nuclear energy and meet at least 10-15 percent of its electricity production from nuclear.
Over 400 Reactors in the World
Minister Bayraktar stated that there are more than 400 reactors in 31 countries in the world today and said, "63 new reactors are being built in 15 countries. 4 of these are done in our country," he said.
We Are Trying To Increase Indigenization
Noting that localization is important in terms of the production of the equipment used in the nuclear industry, Bayraktar said, "We are trying to increase localization."
There Is An Opportunity In SMRs
Drawing attention to the development of SMRs, Minister Bayraktar said, "There is a great opportunity in small modular reactors. This is one of the most important elements of the new nuclear nuclear era. I believe that the strength and dynamism of our industrialists in Türkiye can make Türkiye one of the countries that develops and produces this technology in small modular reactors. We also believe that there are different opportunities in this field," he said.
We Will Write A New Success Story
Pointing out that there were breaks in the supply chain, trade wars and geopolitical tensions in the world after the pandemic, Minister Bayraktar said, "We will successfully overcome this difficult process despite all these events and we will write a new success story together. I believe that we will successfully overcome this process together with the reforms we will make in the field of energy and other fields starting from 2026."
