Oil Production Increased by 26 Percent, Natural Gas Production Increased by 39 Percent
Domestic oil production, which was 38 million barrels per year in 2024, reached 47.9 million barrels in 2025 with a 26 percent increase. In natural gas, Türkiye's total production, which was 2.3 billion cubic meters per year in 2024, increased by 39 percent to 3.2 billion cubic meters in 2025. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said, “We made a significant move in domestic oil and natural gas production in 2025. We will use our domestic resources more efficiently in 2026.”
Reducing the Energy Bill
Domestic oil and natural gas production is crucial in reducing dependence on foreign energy. In particular, oil production in Gabar and natural gas production in the Black Sea contribute to reducing Türkiye's energy bill. In addition to these fields, oil and natural gas production is steadily increasing with new discoveries coming online.
135,000 Barrel Record
In 2025, total domestic oil production reached 47.9 million barrels. The 26% increase in domestic oil production, which was 38 million barrels in 2024, was noteworthy. Daily crude oil production reached a record high on an annual basis on April 25, 2025, at 135,671 barrels.
Peak of 10.2 Million Cubic Meters
Domestic natural gas production, which was 2.3 billion cubic meters annually in 2024, increased to 3.2 billion cubic meters in 2025. The annual increase in natural gas was recorded as 39 percent. On April 21, 2025, daily natural gas production across Türkiye peaked at 10.2 million cubic meters.
Energy Bill
Commenting on the upward trend in oil and natural gas production, Minister Bayraktar said that the country pays an energy bill of $60-70 billion every year. Bayraktar stated that Türkiye imports two-thirds of its energy and emphasized the importance of domestic production in reducing energy dependence on foreign sources.
New Discoveries
Bayraktar noted that they made a significant move in domestic oil and natural gas production in 2025, saying, "We will accelerate our exploration and production activities this year. We will double our natural gas production in the Black Sea. The horizontal drilling method we will implement in Diyarbakır will have a game-changing effect on Turkish oil production. Our drilling activities will increase both at sea and on land. Hopefully, 2026 will be a year of even greater discoveries."
