A New Era with Canada
Speaking at the event, Minister Bayraktar said, “I believe we have entered a new era in Türkiye-Canada relations. Geopolitical developments around the world, particularly in North America and elsewhere, mean that we are now in a period where there is a greater need for different partnerships and alliances.”

Collaborations with Canada Are Important
Pointing out that there is a major trade war going on in the world, Bayraktar said that Türkiye-Canada relations are now a little more meaningful, adding, “Canada is now also looking for new partnerships.”
Minister Bayraktar also emphasized their struggle to make Türkiye independent in the energy sector, stating that this effort is now better understood, adding, “Our collaborations with Canada are important. It is one of the countries that makes the most of its underground resources.”

Our Hope is for Balance in the Short Term
Assessing the tension in the Middle East, Minister Bayraktar said, “It is difficult to predict which direction the process will take. Our hope and wish is that this process will settle into a balance and come to a halt in the short term.” Bayraktar noted that Iran is both an important neighbor and an important energy supplier for Türkiye.

We Must Be Stronger
Minister Bayraktar said, "We live in a world where nothing surprises us anymore. Therefore, as Türkiye, we need to be much stronger in such a process; we need to be strong in every aspect. We must be strong economically, in terms of defense, militarily, and politically. At its core, there are a few fundamental things; one of them is, of course, being united. That is, being able to come together around shared values." he said.

We Want to Take Relations to the Next Level
As part of his contacts in Toronto, Minister Bayraktar attended an iftar program organized by the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSİAD), followed by the Canada-Türkiye Business Reception hosted by the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) and THY. In his speech there, Minister Bayraktar pointed out the importance of cooperation between Türkiye and Canada, saying: "We attach the utmost importance to Türkiye-Canada relations and want to take these relations to the next level. There are many things we can do together in the fields of energy, mining, and defense industry. We want to include nuclear energy in our energy mix. Nuclear energy is one of the main items on the agenda of our visit here. Furthermore, Canada is a mining country. Currently, many Canadian companies are investing in Türkiye. We want to see more cooperation between local Turkish companies and Canadian companies."
