Nuclear Energy Cooperation Agreement with Canada
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Türkiye Nükleer Enerji Anonim Şirketi (TÜNAŞ), which is responsible for the development of nuclear power plants in Türkiye, and the Canadian-based nuclear energy company AtkinsRealis, which provides for cooperation in the development of nuclear power plants in Türkiye. The agreement provides for a detailed assessment of the applicability of Canada's CANDU reactor technology in Türkiye. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said, "We attach great importance to the potential of joint work between the two countries to diversify our energy basket and increase the capacity of nuclear energy."
The visit of Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar to Canada was also instrucive to an important agreement on the field of nuclear energy. On the side of the Canadian Association of Mining Researchers and Developers (PDAC) Congress, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between TÜNAŞ and Canadian nuclear energy company AtkinsRealis, which provides for the development of nuclear power plants in Türkiye.
CANDU Reactor Technology
The agreement, which was accompanied by Minister Bayraktar and Canadian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson, provides for technical data and information sharing and bilateral cooperation to evaluate the applicability of Canada's CANDU reactor technology in Türkiye.
