Mining Agreement with Nigeria
Türkiye and Nigeria signed an agreement in the field of mining. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar shared the agreement, "We believe that we will take our partnership with Nigeria in the field of energy and natural resources to a much higher level with a win-win approach."

He Met with the Nigerian Minister
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar met with Nigerian Solid Minerals Development Minister Oladele Henry Alake, who came to Türkiye within the scope of the 2nd Istanbul Natural Resources Summit (INRES 2026).
Memorandum of Understanding Signed
After the meeting, ministers Bayraktar and Alake signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Mining between the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria".
Minister Bayraktar, who made a post on social media about the agreement, said:
“On the sidelines of the 2nd Istanbul Natural Resources Summit, we took a significant step toward shifting our cooperation with Nigeria in the mining sector to a more functional and results-oriented foundation.
During our meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mr. Oladele Henry Alake, and his delegation, we discussed a roadmap to translate the potential between our countries into tangible results. In this context, we updated the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Mining Sector, which we signed in 2021.
We are deepening our strategic partnership across a broad spectrum, ranging from the exploration of mineral resources to the sharing of knowledge and technology, from safe mining practices to human resource development and new investments.
We are confident that we will take our partnership with Nigeria in the fields of energy and natural resources to a much higher level based on a win-win approach.”
Long Term Cooperation
With the agreement reached, Türkiye and Nigeria will make long-term cooperation on the basis of mutual benefits in the field of energy and natural resources.
Which Areas Are Covered?
In this context; cooperation opportunities will be evaluated at the point of discovery of mineral resources.
Cooperation will be made in areas such as encouraging mining investments, geological research, laboratory studies, data sharing, mineral enrichment technologies, sharing of knowledge and expertise and developing human resource capacity.
In addition, the development of joint projects, the promotion of safe mining practices and the cooperation opportunities for small-scale mining activities will also be discussed.
