Minister Bayraktar Accepted Kirkuk Governor Ağa
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar hosted Kirkuk Governor Mehmet Seman Ağa in the ministry. Minister Bayraktar, who made a statement about the meeting, said, "We will continue to contribute to the stability of Iraq and the energy future of our country with the inspiration we received from our common history."
An important meeting took place in Ankara after Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO) acquired 15 percent of the shares of BP Energy Company of Kirkuk Limited (BP ECKL) operating in Kirkuk.
A Strategic Center
Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, received the Governor of Kirkuk, Mehmet Seman Ağa, in the Ministry. Minister Bayraktar, who made statements on his social media accounts about the meeting, said, "Kirkuk is a strategic center in our hearts not only with its rich energy resources, but also with our common history, culture and unshakable heart bonds that have lasted for centuries. Yesterday, the participation of Turkish Petroleum in the BP partnership with a potential of 3 billion barrels in Kirkuk is an important step in terms of our energy diplomacy, as well as in terms of the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between Kirkuk.
Projects Evaluated
Minister Bayraktar said, "After the agreement, we met with the Governor of Kirkuk, Mr. Mehmet Seman Ağa, and evaluated the projects we could do for the development and stability of the region. We will continue to contribute to the stability of Iraq and the energy future of our country with the inspiration we get from our common history," he said.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a statement at the press conference held after he received Iraqi Prime Minister Ali ez-Zaydi, who made an official visit to Türkiye yesterday, in the Presidential Complex, regarding the agreement signed by TPAO, "The agreement signed today has been a historic step in terms of partnership in the field of energy".
3 Billion Barrels
The project in question covers the Baba and Avanah domes in Kirkuk, one of the most important hydrocarbon production regions in Iraq, as well as the Bai Hassan, Jambur and Khabbaz sites. It is estimated that the contract area contains more than 3 billion barrels of oil equivalent hydrocarbon resources in the first phase. It is also predicted that the area has significant additional search potential.
