IRAQ – TÜRKİYE CRUDE OIL PIPELINE

Iraq - Türkiye Crude Oil Pipeline was built in order to transport the crude oil produced in Kirkuk field and other fields of Iraq to the Ceyhan (Yumurtalık) Marine Terminal within the framework of the Crude Oil Pipeline Agreement between the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Iraq signed on 27 August 1973. The first pipeline with a 40” diameter and 986 km length was operated in the year of 1976 and the first tanker was loaded on 25 May 1977. The construction of the second pipeline parallel to the first pipeline has been started in the year of 1985 and finished in 1987. With the second pipeline with a 46” diameter, the annual transportation capacity was increased to 70.9 million tons. An amendment concerning the renewal of the Kirkuk - Yumurtalık Crude Oil Pipeline Agreement and its protocols and extension of these agreements for 15 years has been signed between the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Iraq on 19 September 2010.

BOTAŞ is the owner of the part of the pipeline that is in the territory of the Republic of Türkiye and also is the operator of that part of the pipeline.

BAKU – TBILISI – CEYHAN MAIN EXPORT CRUDE OIL PIPELINE (BTC)

With Baku – Tbilisi – Ceyhan Main Export Crude Oil Pipeline, it is aimed to transport the crude oil produced in Caspian Region, especially Azeri oil, from Azerbaijan to Ceyhan Marine Terminal through Georgia via a safe, economically and environmentally suitable pipeline system and onwards to world markets from Ceyhan Marine Terminal via tankers.

In this context, the Intergovernmental Agreement has been signed between Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye on 18 November 1999. The Host Government Agreement that is an appendix of the Intergovernmental Agreement was signed between the Republic of Türkiye and Main Export Pipeline Participants on 19 October 2000.

Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAŞ) was the Turnkey Contractor for the part of the BTC pipeline in the territory of the Republic of Türkiye with a 1076 km length. In addition, BOTAŞ International Limited (BIL) is the operator of the part of the BTC pipeline in the territory of the Republic of Türkiye.

With the BTC pipeline which reaches to Türkiye through Baku (Azerbaijan) and Tbilisi (Georgia) and is operational since 4 June 2006, Turkmen and Kazakh oil are also transported depending on production besides the Azeri oil.
